What's New and Different about the Two California Summit Conferences Sep 17 and 24

The Two North American Summit Conferences: Meetings of
the International Christian Recovery Coalition
for Christian Leaders and Workers in the Recovery Arena
[Costa Mesa, CA (Sept. 17, 2011); and Brentwood, CA (Sept. 24, 2011)]

What’s New and Different about These Gatherings?

1. For the first time, we will be stressing the whole Christian recovery need and challenge today:
Qualifying the newcomer, Detox and medical attention, Intervention, Counseling, Treatment—residential and outpatient, after-care, sober living, Christian recovery and study groups, release from prison, the homeless, the penniless, the jobless, the abandoned and lonely, those who need to know where to go for community help (in 12 Step activities, missions, the Salvation Army, the VA, social agencies, churches, Bible studies, prayer groups, Christian recovery fellowships, and other organizations who deal with solving the “wreckage of the past”). We will learn how Christian recovery leaders are addressing problems or referring newcomers to qualified Christians who can help the afflicted and affected call on God for help after receiving salvation.

2. For the first time, we will be linking the early A.A. Akron “Christian fellowship” program and the early Cleveland fellowship growth and 12-Step-oriented Christian approach (Big Book, 12 Steps, Four Absolutes, Bible) to the opportunities to apply their simple programs in Christian recovery efforts today. We will learn the almost-forgotten Christian origins, history, founding, original programs, and astonishing successes of the early Christian pioneers—whether through conversions, recovery missions, evangelists, YMCA lay workers, the Salvation Army, or the Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor. Learning about past successes is the first step in applying the principles and practices today.

3. For the first time, we will be bringing Christian speakers, professionals, 12-Steppers, treatment program representatives, panels, exhibits, and literature detailing experiences in successfully addressing the first two points—through qualified physicians, medical detox facilities, therapists, interventionists, clergy, pastoral counselors, chaplains, assessment and referral people, and certified Christian counselors; leaders in treatment, after-care, 12 Step fellowships, Christian fellowships, study groups, Bible studies, and prayer groups; and facilitators of wholesome directions to jobs, education, vocational training, medical problems, legal problems, financial and tax and debt problems, community resources, recreational activities, family and custody and marriage problems. We will learn that there are many areas of expertise and experience that should not repose in the hands of one person or group or facility, but rather in the collective Christian wisdom of those who know the how, where, what, when, and why.
