A Preview of the Three Talks at the Roseville CA New Year’s Roundup Next Week

The first talk will be a full session presentation on the Bible and Alcoholics Anonymous. We’ll cover:

The very specific evidence in A.A. literature and the remarks of A.A.’s early leaders and teachers as to how much the Bible was used, how important it was, and what the applicability was then and today.

The extensive Christian origins of the recovery movement long before A.A. was founded: The rescue missions, the Salvation Army, Congregationalism, the great evangelists, The Great Awakening of 1875 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, the Young Men’s Christian Association, and Young People’s Society of Christian Endeavor. Also the belated contributions of A First Century Christian Fellowship known later as the Oxford Group.

The Christian upbringing of A.A.’s cofounders and what they learned from their parents, their Congregational churches, their Sunday schools, their Bible studies, Christian Endeavor, the YMCA, rescue missions, and the revivals and conversions they attended or learned of. Also, the daily chapel at their academies where there was Scripture reading, a sermon, prayer, and hymns. And, of course, Bill Wilson’s four year Bible study course at Burr and Burton Seminary.

The role of Christian literature and Christian devotionals and Anne Smith’s Quiet Times each day that early AAs were exposed to.

The special emphasis that AAs gave to the Book of James, Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount, and 1 Corinthians 13.

And the context of Dr. Bob’s and Bill’s remarks about the Bible and early A.A.

The First Break-out Session Talk will be on What the Early AAs Did in the First Years of A.A.

The Second Break-out Session Talk will be on the Missing Elements Today in the Contributions of Conferences, Speakers, Sponsors, leaders, and Beginners Meetings .

The missing training on early A.A. history, the Christian roots of A.A., and the four different major recovery programs of A.A. that need to be sorted out and explained.

Supplementing “drunkalogs” and “war stories” with personal accounts of the role played in individual recoveries by God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Bible; the Big Book, the Twelve Steps; Sponsorship; and contacts with newcomers.

Establishing orientation meetings tailored to giving newcomers much needed information on A.A.’s roots, the Bible, the Oxford Group, Sponsorship, Helping others, reliance on God, the Steps, and the Big Book
