15th Dick B. YouTube Presentation Script - The September 24 Summit Announcement

The Dick B. Channel on YouTube

The History of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Christian Recovery Movement

Video 15

The North American Christian Recovery Summit, September 24, 2011

This is the fifteenth presentation of the Dick B. Channel on YouTube. The subject was to have been a continued discussion of the Christian upbringing of A.A. cofounders Bill W. and Dr. Bob as a youngsters in Vermont.

But we interrupt the series to tell you about the first North American Summit of the International Christian Recovery Coalition at Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood, California, on Saturday, September 24, 2011. This is the first major summit meeting of Christian leaders and workers in the recovery arena, newcomers, and the public, since the Coalition was formed in July 2009 just following the conference at Mariners Church Community Center in Irvine, California, in May 2009.

This summit is free. No registration is required. The public is invited. And it will be the first gathering of Christian leaders and workers in the recovery arena, of newcomers, and of the public, where we will be hearing: (1) how Christian recovery has been moving; (2) how it is incorporating the “old school” Akron A.A. and Cleveland A.A. Fellowship programs; (3) what leaders are doing now and suggest for steps forward. If you are one of those who wants: (1) to stay in existing 12 Step and other recovery programs; (2) to stress the role that God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Bible have played in the recovery movement; and (3) to apply those “old school” A.A. principles in recovery today, then this is a great opportunity you will not want to miss.

We here present the program of the North American Summit of the International Christian Recovery Coalition on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood, California, as it has tentatively been arranged:

Our Conference Reward

for Those Who Want God’s Help and Can Learn the Facts

The last 21-plus years of research and learning about the real “old time” A.A. of 1935-1940 in Akron and Cleveland, and how it developed, has produced a rich treasure of facts about how the early AAs achieved astonishing success. The simple, seven-point program outline by Frank Amos on page 131 of the A.A. General Service Conference-approved book DR. BOB and the Good Oldtimers acquainted early AAs with their problem and defeat due to alcoholism. It then stressed surrender to God by coming to Him through Jesus Christ and obeying God's will. It encouraged spiritual growth through prayer meetings, Bible study, “Quiet Time,” reading Christian literature. And it encouraged early AAs to focus on love and service to others in need.

By learning these simple facts, and how the Akron approach was further refined in Cleveland A.A. beginning in May of 1939, those in recovery need no longer: (1) Wallow in the talk of nonsense “higher power” gods that abounds in today’s recovery scene. (2) Try to fathom the mystical “spirituality” which is little understood and poorly articulated by those who advocate it. (3) Fruitlessly rely on meetings and group strength to get well, rather than believing that God could and would relieve them if He were sought.

Early A.A. principles and practices are being used by the few that know them in today’s 12 Step and Christian recovery fellowships. And these principles and practices appear to hold great promise of making possible successful recovery today similar to that achieved by earlier Christian recovery pioneers.

This fifteenth presentation has covered the North American Summit of the International Christian Recovery Coalition we hope you will attend on Saturday, September 24, at Golden Hills Community Church in Brentwood, California. The next program--our sixteenth--will cover the remaining two Christian evangelists of importance--F.B. Meyer and Billy Sunday—that impacted on the Christian upbringing of A.A.’s cofounders as youngsters in Vermont.

I close by giving you pictures of three of my books which more fully detail the facts about the “old school” A.A. programs in Akron and Cleveland in the late 1930’s. The first is The Akron Genesis of Alcoholics Anonymous. The second is The James Club and the Original A.A. Program’s Absolute Essentials. And the third is Real Twelve Step Fellowship History.

Alcoholics Anonymous History - Free cases of books till 3/31

There has never been an opportunity like this, and the offer ends March 31, 2011 when we expect all our cases on hand to have been distributed. After that, it's order individual titles through us or through Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble or a bookstore at retail price per book.

The point is that Dick B. is the leading A.A. historian today. He has published 42 titles, over 500 articles, done radio shows, and spoken all over the United States before AAs, churches, conferences, seminars, the Wilson House (where Bill W. was born), Akron where it all started at Dr. Bob's Home in 1935, and in St. Johnsbury, Vermont where Dr. Bob was born and raised.

For 20 years, Dick has been reporting what he has unearthed, studied, and analyzed about all aspects of Alcoholics Anonymous History. That's about 2 books per year. And they cover the waterfront--endless aspects of A.A. history that have never been researched or reported or adequately discussed.

The subjects have included Dr. Bob's Library, Anne Smith's Journal, the Bible, Quiet Time, devotionals, the Oxford Group, Rev. Sam Shoemaker, William James, Carl G. Jung, Dr. William D. Silkworth, the conversion of Bill Wilson, Dr. Bob's upbringing in Vermont, early A.A. belief in God and acceptance of Jesus Christ, the books early AAs read, and much much more.

This rare opportunity for free cases of books will expire on March 31 when all of the available 350 cases will have been distributed.

For the last two and a half months, many have ordered 30 cases of books, 29 cases of books, five cases, four cases, two cases, and individual cases. There is only one title per case, and the number of titles availalabe is limited to the original 350 we had on hand. And going fast. You only need pay $30.00 per case to receive each case media mail. Some cases have 70 books. Some around 40. One with 12. One with 14. And all new.

The inventory of these books is available on http://mcaf.ee/f6ed4/. Or you can call Ken B. or email dickb@dickb.com to find out what books are still available for the free offer, and you can order from Ken B. at 808 276 4945, or through dickb@dickb.com, or use paypayl on our main website http://www.dickb.com/.

Call if you need information. Call if you want to know which cases are still available. Call if you wish to order one or more cases--which are free--for the cost of $30.00 per case media mail.

You can distribute the books to your sponsor and sponsees, your study group, your James Club, your church, your Christian recovery fellowship, your treatment center and alumni groups, your counselor, your sober living, to jails and prisons, to hospitals and mental wards, and to the many thirsting to know where A.A. really came from.

God Bless, Dick B. dickb@dickb.com

Christian Recovery Resource Centers - World-wide

We are launching a new International Christian Recovery Coalition effort! Christian Recovery Resource Centers throughout the world! Precded by a survey of what you do, what you need, and what you will incorporate, implement, and support.

International Christian Recovery Coalition is launching a new effort.

We plan to stimulate Christian Recovery Resource Centers throughout the world.

We are clear as to what is presently going on in the Christian Recovery arena. We have devoted 20 years to traveling all over the United States and communicating with Christians in the recovery arena throughout the world.

Now we want to bring before you many of the things we have seen, and also learn from you by survey questions just where you might fit into our worldwide plan to encourage Christian Recovery Resource Centers throughout the world.

The effort will be to enable a village, community, city, county, and area to have a Christian Recovery Resource Center where dedicated, experienced, qualified Christian recovery leaders can point Christians, their families, their friends, their churches, their counselors, their recovery groups, their treatment centers, their sober living facilities, their physicians, their therapists, their service agencies, their veterans, their military, their homeless, their at-risk members, their government workers, and others to a place where full and adequate information is available on what a Christian can do to recover from alcoholism and addiction today.

We know the need is there. We know a large number of Christian recovery leaders and groups that are providing pieces of the puzzle right now. And we have watched them unite through the years to attain a common goal: (1) Describe the role that God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Bible played in the origins, history, founding, original program, and successes of the early A.A. Christian Fellowship founded in Akron in 1935. (2) Encourage those who want God's help to apply these principles and practices, and the role of God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible, in their pursuit of recovery, wholeness, and victory today.

The next announcement will provide the beginning survey to learn the facts before we propose the particulars. See also The Dick B. Christian Recovery Guide, 3rd ed., 2010, www.dickb.com/Christian-Recover-Guide.shtml; "Introductory Foundations for Christian Recovery," a four DVD Class, www.dickb.com/IFCR-Class.shtml for some details.

God Bless,

Purpose of the trip: On all the foregoing events, the main objective is to define for the recovery community and the public the role that God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Bible have played in the Christian origins, history, founding, original program, and successes of early A.A. and can play today if God's help is wanted and sought. There is a new way out! Serving and glorifying God are primary. Helping the still suffering is the specific aim. And broadening the understanding of the scope and impact of alcoholism, addiction, substance abuse, recidivism, and revolving door treatment is a vitally important adjunct--this means how society, parents, children, family, friends, schools, hospitals, churches, prisons, courts, correctional workers, social workers, government agencies, veterans, military personnnel, mental health facilities, rescue missions, homeless relief, police, and the public at large are in need of immediate attention and help. Particularly how to embrace Dr. Bob's statement: "Your Heavenly Father will never let you down!" (A.A. Big Book, page 181).
