See the doctor first? Not quite!

Here is my response to a post by Phoenix urging that the first stop in quitting should be the doctor's office. Not quite! It's the need to recognize the beginner's own decision, determine, and discipline first:

It's not about funds, grants, research, studies, government aid, nor about doctor first. It's about insuring first  that  a newcomer has decided to quit for good, that he or she knows he is an alcoholic or addict, and that he will go to any length to do so by decision, determination, discipline.

Then comes medical detox or a visit to the doctor for medical help in quitting without  seizures or DT's.

God Bless, Dick B.
